Left for work this AM, seemed funny when I left the driveway....figured GREAT, tranny is probably slipping. Seemed to be from standstill, then a little more on freeway. Went to turn off exit to head back home and completely died. Lost power steering and luckily made it to shoulder.

It wouldn't crank then turned over and died, I was thinking alternator but tow tech said may be fuel pump too. I know they are known for the good ol' fuel pump. I would think if fuel pump it would turn over and sputter then die yea?

Volts seemed good on dash prior, battery tested marginal at last oil change too. It has 125k on the clock.....

With the key on, try using a rubber or plastic mallet and bang on your gas tank a few times (from under the truck). Try to start it. If that doesn't work, have someone bang on it while you're cranking the engine. Sometimes a bad fuel pump can be jolted into working again to get you to a place where you can replace the pump.

It didn't sputter at all either which I would expect with lack of fuel

Normally when a fuel pump dies it's not while driving, but anything can happen I suppose.
I was pulling a U-Haul with my 98 Blazer across the desert in Utah when my fuel pump crapped out. Luckily my wife was behind me in our other car. However we were 30 miles from the nearest town. Lol..well not really.
Trust nothing mechanical.

Had the same exact situation happen to me. I was driving, vehicle turned off while i was driving. It wouldnt turn over at all. So i called a tow truck company after banging on the tank and trying to start it. No go! I replaced the fuel pump, started right up, never had an issue after that. $375 bill, but i would rather have that happen to me near home, which it did.
