Yes I have done that. Even tried to manually move the selector switch and had no luck. Decided to have it towed to a transmission shop today.

About this time I would look at a Helm's Shop Manual on this one. I have seen a similar situation on mid and late 90's models that were stolen recovery vehicles and the ignition Switch was the culprit. I think there is a complete module/assembly in the steering column that can be replaced also that may cover this.

Consider trying this : http://www.1aauto.com/steering-column-shift-control-mechanism/i/1astc00069

I'm curious about this also and will do some research.

Well it's fixed. Turns out both of the neutral safety switches I put on were bad right out of the box.

First two that I put on were from autozone. I knew the quality would be questionable but 2 in a row? The third that was put on was from GM

The vehicle "thinks" its in reverse as indicated by the gear selection indicator. Per the previous post you need to manually finish "parking" the indicator so it will start. The cable or connectors between shift lever and transmission is where I am leading to.

Sounds like the PNP switch was just out of adjustment to me. Seen it many times.

I'm definitely glad to have it fixed.

well the first 2 switches that were put on, after they didn't change anything. I even manually rotated the dial on the switch and nothing changed. That's why I thought the issue was elsewhere.
