I would take it apart again, check your work, and reassemble. You must have not got something back together right. Did you remove the actual latch? If not, you might want to do that and check to see if anything got bent or damaged.

I just had a chance to check everything it looks like my rods are a little bent is there anywhere I can purchase new rods where I don’t have to fidget around with these bent ones. Also do you think the bent rods can be the problem

They’re more likely a symptom. You might have put something back together wrong which bent the rods. Or it could be vice versa - they were bent before. I would go to a wrecking yard or try eBay.
