On my 03 Tahoe, I replaced the fuel pump / sending unit with about 1/4 tank of gas in the tank.
Everything went perfect, ( I actually cut an access panel in the floor under the seat to replace the pump )
Contact me for instructions if changing a Tahoe pump. You do NOT have to drop the tank.

Now with the new pump / Sending unit, the fuel gauge shows a little over 3/4 full when the tank is topped off.

WTF ?

how do i reset or recalibrate the fuel gauge?

Yes I have the correct pump according to the VIN number ( FYI it's ALWAYS the most expensive option offered )

If I end up out of gas on a deserted back road at 3 am, I know what to do.
Light a fire and walk away from this POS GM product.

A couple of things, was the fuel pump box sealed when you got it ? is it possible the arm on the pump got bent when you installed it ? since you did not drop the tank, cut access hole under seat. You could compare the swing arm to the original one for comparison, but you would have to remove what you just installed. JMHO and good luck,

Ok, update, it turns out the pump assy I purchased had been returned previously. The sending unit was faulty. Thank Goodness I cut that access panel, and did not have to drop the tank a second time in 5 days.
NOTE : I contacted the manufacturer, a TechRep told me to test the unit before installation. You simply plug it into both wiring connections, turn your key to on, and activate the float arm up and down while checking your fuel gauge. SIMPLE. also, you could verify the OHM readings on the unit right out of the box, 254 Plus or minus 5 on the high side, 41.5 plus or minus 5 on the low side. 2002- 2004 Tahoe manu specs are 197-250 high side and 40-66 low side. Both tests were done before installation of the second unit. Problem solved.

Thanks for posting these spec's. I plan replace the sending unit in my Yukon in the near future, and now I will definitely test it before installation.

Be sure to check with the TechRep for the pump / sending unit you are purchasing, he will have both his, and the vehicle specs for your specific application. But the tests i described work for all fuel pumps.
