Im running a 3/5 on my 2003 Tahoe all Mcgaughys including shocks (part # 2050 that McG recommended) for about 6 months now. I noticed my passenger side shock was broken earlier this week....well since I didnt want to drive my truck with the weather...dun dun dunnnnn the other shock broke (never experienced a vehicle with no shocks in the back eeeeek!) The other shock broke tonight since there is a bump to get on the freeway from my way home from work that is like a mini jump, all of a sudden you go up then down. I assume its maxing out the shocks on that part since its pretty good size. Will shock extenders help solve this issue? Can I run them with a 5" drop in the rear? I dont even know how the shock broke in the 1st place, then again they are generic. Should I upgrade to some KYB's (can get a deal on these) or go McG with shock extenders? Trying to stay on a budget since Im buying a house so dont wont to spend $200 on shocks right now.

Thanks all!

Does anyone know the length of the McGaughys #2050 shocks? I need to get these replaced asap and may have to find some shocks local hopefully.....should I run shock extenders?

Thanks all

do you have the trailing arm relocators and rear swaybar links??? that comes with the kit with 5 inches is needed.

as for the shocks i would jack up the truck and see what the shocks are fully extended then go from there. Main thing you want a shock that center stroke is what your ride height is.

ie lets say your truck at ride height is 15 inches from center/center of the shock eyes. so that would mean if you got a shock that is 20 inches extended and 10 inches collapsed that would be a perfect set up.

you dont need to measure the shock just measure front center eye/eye on the shock mounts at ride height then you can dial in the shock.
