2003 yukon SLT 4WD Rear Pinion Seal leaking , wanting to replace seal any issues with preloading the pinion gear???

Rear pinion seal leaking. I believe it has 8.5 rear main bolt pattern.
Has anyone replaced it themselves and if so the process start to end??

My thoughts,

1. order GM Oem pinion seal using vin #
2. jack vehicle/jackstands
3. mark driveshaft in relation to sitting in driveshaft mount
4. remove driveshaft and tape needle bearing covers in place
5. mark pinion nut in relation to pinion nut and rear axle case
6. Count the number of turns when removing pinion nut
7. remove pinion seal with seal puller
8. clean seal surface

NOT sure of

1. when installing new seal place bead of gear oil around seal surface?
Or leave seal surface dry where it is tapped back into the rear axle?

2. install is reverse? Meaning when it comes to preloading the pinion gear by installing nut/turns and lining up marks from removal?

Any help with pictures or anything would be greatly appreciated.

No grease on seal, either dry or something like loc-tite 518, high heat rtv just a lite coating in case of slight distortion when tapping it in with a large socket,piece of pvc what ever you have. Counting turns is rough and hard to do on the ground some say pinion nuts should be replaced when removed

This will not work. The crush sleeve has already been crushed. Buy a new crush sleeve and torque to proper specs with OEM procedures. You will destroy your rearend if you do not get it right and there is a zero chance you will reusing your crush sleeve.

Thanks for the replies. I will get a new crush sleeve and new yolk to prevent any leaks. Is this video a good representation? I was thinking of using my snap on tech angle and turning the nut before disassembly and seeing what the torque yield is. Then torque to specs.

I think i have a better understanding, before removing the jolk flange, turn the nut using a gauge , not a torque clicker. I have a snap on tech angle that i can see what preload is before remoing the nut. The if i understand, add 3.5 ln/lbs above what the preload was before removal? I watched several youtube videos and seems more mark everything in relation but not measure preload.
