I'm new to the site and looking for some help. I'm currently at the beach and my transfer case busted.I have about a 6 hr drive home I have jb welded the 2 pin holes I have found. Of course there must be another hole on top I can't find.I was wondering if I could take the front drive shaft out and possibly make it home to my shop without it locking up.I dont want someone working on it that I don't know. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance im leaving Friday the 23

As long as you have 4x4 it should be fine. Dont do it if its awd! Not sure what you will gain from it though. Spend a couple bucks and get the oil your manual says to use. I would drain it out myself. You may get some metal out that would really do some damage in there. .bring some water and food for the fam on the way home . It could be a long ride.

Thanks for the info. The only reason I was thinking take front drive shaft out was because it always spins, even while in 2wd. There must be another hole dead on top that I can't find because after letting jb weld dry I Put fluid back in and as soon as I pull out of drive way I can see it in my rear view on the road. It fixed the growl until it ran dry again. That's the only other option I could think of besides stop every hundred miles and put fluid in it again. What's going to happen if it completely fails while driving, lock completely up, will I be able to get off the road. Thanks again for the help.

I dont think you can pull the driveshaft out actually. I think the oil would run out too. Well i dont think your going to make it 100 miles if you can see it in your rear view. Take mirrior. Theres a good hole somwhere, . If it fails. You dont go anywhere.
Rent a u haul and trailer one way. If you really cant plug the leak. For sure going to be cheaper then a 5 hour highway tow.

Well it turns out that the 2nd hole I sealed didn't hold up so I sealed it again and looked everywhere with a mirror and can't find anything else. So maybe that will fix it so I can make it home.I really appreciate the help. I'm gonna let it dry the rest of the day and see what happens. Thanks again

Well after I resealed the 2nd hole I found it didn't leak another drop, and we made it home without anymore problems. Thanks again for the advice.

Why don't you take the transfer case out and pull it apart, the holes are Hsiang located at the transfer case pump, if you take it out and apart you should be able to find a machine shop around you that can weld aluminum and fix it a lot cheaper

I think there's more wrong than just a hole in it. Its still full of fluid and it's rattling pretty bad. So I'd rather just get another new case
