Got the motor torn down in a couple hours this evening. Didn't get driver head off yet since I suspected the passenger side to be the problem. Thankfully pistons and valves look good and I see an obvious failure point in the head gasket . Not sure why it blew though. My torque wrench is snapon and was recently calibrated. Only thing I can really think of is that I torqued. The heads twice and ended up pulling them again and retorqueing using the same gasket which might be a nono I'm not sure. Also they might have gotten wd40 on them when I was coating the cylinders. Not sure if that would cause an issue.

New gaskets will be here Wednesday and I'll pull the driver side head tomorrow 20200322_221241.jpg 20200322_221716.jpg 20200322_220459.jpg

Nope yanked the blower, fuel rails, coolant lines, fuel lines, catch can stuff and headers. Not bad at all. When I put this motor in I specifically designed all the lines to be easy to get to and everything is AN fittings! No silly worm gear clamps or spring clamps. Also used arp bolts for nearly everything which is nice.

Alright alright I'll break forum rules.:banplease:

Borescope down the spark plug holes and the cylinders and pistons look pretty good. Kinda impossible to see small cracks but overall they look good. My thoughts now are somehow the LS9 head gaskets have failed. New gasket will be here Wednesday the plan is to pull heads tomorrow evening and hopefully just throw the new gaskets in Wednesday night. Then let her rip tater chip.

Actually go easy on it and get a good 200 miles or so on it without anymore boost to make sure all is going well. Then hammer the thing with boost pulls and get the tune dialed to perfection.

Oh goodness I haven't been laid off yet I still have work to do lol. I'll work on it but its gonna take a lot of work I've had it for 5 or 6 years now and there's only a few things left that are original. Like the interior and the pealing paint. The entire drive train and suspension is completely different.

I will but not this week got to much going on. I basically leave house around 0630 and get to walk back into the house around 2300.

I do have further good news the driver side looks healthy! No sign of Corona virus.

With any luck it will be running by the end of the week! 20200323_205443.jpg 20200323_211441.jpg 20200323_205451.jpg

In other news I've been really loading the hoe down with building supplies as I've been expanding one of my barns. It's so nice to throw bags of concrete and boxes if Simpson strong ties in the back and not worry about them getting wet or anything. Got this cool pic when I visited my neighbors lumber yard to get supplies last week. Love this truck I think its the best DD I've ever had. 20200316_094729.jpg
