My 2004 GMC YOKON WAS BROKEN INTO. I BELIEVE THEY WERE TRYING TO STEAL THE ENTIRE TRUCK. THEY BROKE MY KEY IGNITION TO THE POINT THE KEY WILL NOT GO ENTIRELY THROUGH TO BE ABLE TO TURN TO REMOVE. WE TRIED A FEW DIFFERENT THINGS

you can replace the lock cylinder for about $150 at any reputable automotive lock smith after that you need the $40 clamshell replacement (unnecessary) and I can take pictures of my 2001’s wiring harness if you need to double verify that they didn’t cut anything edit: 2001-2006 should have all the same ignition wiring etc

To remove the lock cylinder all you should really have to do is push the locking metal tab from the bottom with a toothpick (or small flatblade screwdriver/straight pick) and grab the lock cylinder with pliers after that you need to get a new ignition key and potentially all new door and trunk and spare locks and get it programmed if I was you I’d get the lock cylinder off and send it off to a professional mechanic or locksmith.

can't remove the cylinder if it won't turn
a locksmith might be able to do it, maybe if he can get it un jammed
otherwise it's probably going to have to be drilled out

Idk mine came out without the key in it is there a difference in this aspect between 2001 and 2004 models? Mine wasn’t broken into to my knowledge I pushed in that half triangle thing from the access hole twisted it with my fingers and it came out it is possible this one was broken and that’s why the mechanic had to replace it?

If that’s the case it’s a full blown mechanic or locksmith case

normally you have to turn the key to run and push the pin hole (under the plastic cover) to remove the ignition. They have been like that since the 70's maybe longer
