@Chris Ross
spend some time on Google using every search phrase that you can think of and dig up some literature on this BW 4482 failure of the exact same category. i also suggest getting your hands on a component breakdown of the 4482; GM puts out a flow chart on their various TCs that could point to the problem you have in your app. Understanding this unit & how it operates will only be of benefit to you
research & time is a good start. I have pulled up everything there is on the TC in my truck. If and when it does fail, I will immediately know where to begin a diagnosis, repair or replacement options simply through diligence. My truck has a completely dif't unit so I can't help you with any info, but I have seen it online and it is all there for your education. YouTube is also an invaluable source if you haven't tried that yet.
Use both 'BW4482' & 'NR4' as part of your search term, but not simultaneously. You will find links for threads/postings, mag articles, noteworthy publications, replacement parts and whole units pricing, GM tech, & so on.
Your best bet will be a posting that someone has started and the thread gained enough traction whereby another member or cert tech posted the possible causes and/or most noteworthy (like a service bulletin or recall would address a common issue) and if you are lucky the original poster will have ended the thread with info on a successful repair or at the very least a diagnosis for total failure and credible source for new or used replacement TC. There are a number of website-containing forums. I have found the Avalanche forums especially useful. The same TC was prob used in a lot of the escalade platform, too, so there is a lot of tech & diag info out there in the interweb.
Personally, I can't suggest that of a motor/position failure or an internal failure. But I bet you can find out before you make any moves.
I always like to call a smaller, established trans' repair or 2 (indi' owned & operated type outfit) and try to get somebody on the phone. If you know how to get the guy talking, he will usually tell you what he knows.
