@strutaeng I am googling this and the symptoms do seem to match the bad torque converter. Unfortunately it seems like maybe this could have been what contributed to having to replace my transmission at 95k miles and that the torque converter issue is hard to find and can go unnoticed. I will take to the dealership. Thank you so much for your help!
Indeed they are famous for eating torque converters right at 98K miles. With mine, it seemed to start out be simulating an engine misfire. These trucks are known to go through hubs after 10-100K miles and it feels like the brakes are locking up, hard to get going very fast since the hub bearings are freezing up. Also failing old Drive Shaft universal joints will cause a similar vibration sometimes. The extended warranty covered about 1/2 the cost. In hind sight, I probably should have bought a better torque converter to replace it, but the GM Dealer is just going to use their standard stuff on a warranty repair.

@NickTransmissions thank you again for your help with this. I took the car back to my transmission mechanic and he replaced the TCC under warranty. After waiting ~2 weeks for the part I am finally back in action. I've only driven the car once so far but the rumbling at 40-50 mph seems to be gone. Thank you so much - I would not have known where to start!

@strutaeng thank you for the intro! Appreciate your help and guidance on this!

@Blackcar thank you for your help!
