It's a 2005, so likely has "hydroboost" brake booster?

The three trucks I've had with it have all whined, as the P/S pump provides the boost...

OK So i flushed the PS fluid and replaced the belt and idler pulley. Noise remains. I am going to get a mechanics stephascope. Makes the whine with the AC on or off, also in neutral.

Any other ideas of what it could be?

Steering is alot smoother now though!

Did you run the engine with the belt off? If not, you need to in order to isolate the noise.

So I have put the following new parts on and all the belt squeaks are gone, but the whine is still there. I posted a video, any ideas?

New alternator
new drive belt
new ac belt
new ac tensioner
new belt idler pulley.

I agree on water pump. Don't plan any long trips until you get it fixed too. This might be a bearing failing. When it goes you might be without engine coolant until you get it fixed.

This happened to me.

My Suburban was making a noise very similar to that, but I didn't have any voltage or electrical issues. I drove it like that for a year, I figured I'd wait for it to fail but it never did. I even took it on a few trips to Houston (about 4 hours one way). I decided to upgrade my alternator to a higher amperage one & the sound went away. I still have the original alternator, and when you spin it over by hand it makes a noise. I think it's the bearings.

I have a brand new ACdelco alternator installed. I am beginning to think my noise is now the water pump
