2005 Tahoe LS losing/burning oil?

Our Tahoe seems to be losing oil and it does not leak. It only has 119,000 or so on it. It runs great but after a fresh oil change and about 1500 miles or so the console tells me to check the oil level. When I check it there is not alot on the dipstick. Does anyone else have this problem or am I looking at some serious s***?

What makes me think it's burning oil is that around the end of the tail pipe is sooty almost like a wood stove. Any ideas?

What is the casting number on your heads? Is it 706? Research "Castech 706 heads cracking". Are you also losing coolant?

Looks like 862 is the number on our truck. Don't seem to be losing coolant either. Thanks though.

these trucks have a bad valve cover design, the oil you are talking about is been sent to the intake manifold via the vent hose to the pvc valve on the right head. You need to add an oil catch can, you can do a search on this site to learn more about it

Get the valve cover from GM that fix's problem.
The part number is posted on this forum several times.
You should beable to find it easily.

I went ahead and checked out the PCV valve tube to the intake and found very little oil in the tube or at either end. Here are two pics.



From what I have read most rigs with 120,000 miles had serious sludge in their tubes, so this makes me think we got issues other than the PCV valve. Anyone have some thoughts?
