Hey guys.. I'm fairly new here.. with a 2005 tahoe.. i've had for a month or so.. took it down to florida.. ran fantastic.. no complaints... but.. two days ago.. I was stuck in traffic on the highway... and when traffic started moving.. I lightly pushed down on the accelerator pedal... and the truck didn't move.. engine didn't increase in rpm.. no response at all! Almost felt like it stalled...but.. it didnt.... just idled.. I pulled it over to the shoulder of the road while idling.. and after about 10 seconds.. pushed the accelerator.. and it started running just fine.. hasn't happened at all again that day or today.
Any ideas on what the problem might be? is this a common thing??

Thanks in advance

While I am by no means an expert I will try to take a stab at your questions, and maybe someone with a little more experience can jump in later. From what I recall there is a sensor on the accelerator pedal that tells the throttle where it is and to adjust engine speed accordingly. It could be possible that sensor has gotten defective.

Good luck with your truck.

makes sense.. and thanks for your input

Hi Paul

Thanks for the response...that actually makes some sense.. there must be some way to test it?
Anybody have any idea with regards to this or any other idea that might help me not run into this problem again.

Thanks Paul.. and everybody else

drive by wire truck... either the throttle actuator is going out or the pedal is. unlikely to be the PCM.

One thing to check first... the connections. especially since you just bought it a month ago, and presumably the carpets were cleaned, shampooed etc. Most DBW have a connector on the pedal assembly itself, and either a flying lead connector or a direct connector on the throttle body (Not to be confused with the MAF).

I would remove those and reconnect them a few times, and then if it never happens again, never worry about it again. DBW is over 30 years old, and very well sorted.

You can check the connections on the sensors and modules. The etc systems have 3 main components that work in conjunction with the pcm: the pedal position sensor (PPS), throttle actuator control module (TAC module), and the throttle position sensor (TPS).
Usually, if the TAC or any related components or sensors become disconnected, it will store a dtc that would tell you that the pcm lost communication with the tac module or there is a low reference signal from the tps or pps. If this was the first time it happened, the pcm may not illuminate the SES light until it happens again, but it will still store the dtc in memory so you can retrieve it and start with resolving the problem that way.

Thank you....

Hey guys.... thank you for your input and your information. Obviously some of you..wait.. ok.. many of you are much more up to speed all all this electronic stuff than I am.
So... I will do the simple things first.. disconnect and reconnect the connectors and make sure all is hooked up fine there..and otherwise.. what I think you're saying is to have th pcm read and see if it stored any codes and hopefully that will help lead to some resolution?

Thanks guys... if I do find what it is.. I will certainly come back on post the results so if anybody else runs into this... it will give them some indication of what someone else had found to correct the problem

take care
