2005 Z71 no underhood light

is there a way to add an underwood light to my 2005 Tahoe? My 1998 GMC 2500 pickup has one and I really miss not having one on my Tahoe. Is the wiring there? Where would the switch go that would activate it? Something s simple I don't understand why a vehicle like that doesn't have one. Thank you.

Lots of guys have done this many ways. You can get a factory once from the junk yard with the mercury switch in it and just go direct to the battery or tap a circuit. Or you can use a plunger switch and get real fancy with LEDs like @05Single and a few others have.

I grabbed one from an 02 Tahoe and wired it into a hot under hood lead. Works great.

I just used some heavy duty outdoor white led strip, the stuff was made to last like 25 years outdoors. I figured it would last for a while under the hood, it's covered in thick clear plastic, I forgot who made it GE/3m/Sylvania or one of those, you can find it at the hardware store in the lighting section it was made to use sort of like a solar light system but it's 12v instead
it can be cut to length at the arrows, I just wired it up, 12v is 12v led doesn't drain much, I think the hood got left open for a week and half at the bodyshop before I started getting text's that the voltage was low, it was something similar to this
