Ok my spare double lock wasn't working right and was just a nightmare to get it down. Long rod removed license plate. You know the drill.. what's the fix for it? Grind off the second latch and put a big zip strip on the tire so in case if it does fall? Anyone come up with a better idea ? Maybe I should soak latch in oil..

Many people have taken the ear off and have been fine. If you want to keep that feature, soak it in penetrating oil and clean it up good then make sure you cycle the spare tire hoist latch system twice a year or like I do, when I change the oil. Let’s me make sure it will work if and when I do need on the side of the road and also let’s me check the air pressure in the spare.
