My 4x4 button lights don't work at night . they sometimes work in the winter the auto 4x4 light goes out on its own . So I bought a button module from amazon .. It looks right but I was wondering how to install it . Do I just keep the key off when I hooking it up or do I need to unhook the battery ?

No need to disconnect the battery when changing the 4x4 dash switch. Just take out the ignition key while you're working on that part.

You'll likely have to have the key in to move the shift lever down to get the trim piece out, unless you have room to work on the switch with the trim piece partially out.
