2006 Tahoe Body Mount and Bolt Size

What were the PN for the body mount bushings you used?

I'm gathering parts for a rebuild of my 2004 Suburban 2500 LT . This will include replacing all the rubber isolators. I don't want to use polyurethane but if that's what you used the PN might help me.

Fof anyone else doing this, this is what I found online so far:

The online OEM part finders list 15837581 for the upper radiator support bushing and 15201791 for the lower bushing (rubber cup); however, the description says that for 4WD, 15837581 goes in positions 1, 3, 4, and 6. It also shows application up to 2014 Escalades. Of course this does not match the sketch which shows this goes only in position 1 (radiator support) and that 15201142 goes in the other 4 positions; but wait - there are 5 other positions (12 body mounts for suburban counting radiator support bushing). So, the picture must be wrong!

Enter Dorman 924-040. When you search for body mounts for this Suburban, the Dorman 924-040 and 924-138 come up. The 138 is unavailable (more on that later) excep for a few websites which sell it for way cheaper than the ones that list it as out of stock. These websites are probably bogus so don't buy it from them or you can kiss your money goodbye. For 924-040, some descriptions list it for positions 1 and 4 but this doesn't jive with the OEM websites - unless you assume Dorman does not count the radiator support as position 1. With that assumption, Dorman position 1 and 4 become OEM position 2 and 5, whicb works perfectly with the 15837581 OEM description saying it goes in positions 1,3,4,6.

But where to get 15837581? I found Dorman 924-133 on Rock Auto with it showing that the OEM PN for it are 15837581 and 15201142. So I bought some, along with some 924-040, which measure about 1/8 of an inch taller than 924-133.

So, now what? I would hate to be torn into my Suburban only to find that I have the wrong mounts. Also, the plan was to do this last in the rebuild sequence so I could install a body lift if needed to clear the 37's I plan to install.

Bottom line is I'm looking for definitive, current PN info on body mount bushings for my 4WD 2004 Suburban 2500 LT.

I never changed my mounts all i did was chassis swap a suburban with a avalanche. Which btw uses same mounts.

Sorry but thats as far as i went with mounts

Yes I installed the 8 body mounts and everything seemed to fit exactly as it should. I replaced all of the mounts in the from the radiator back with the SB kit. Since the kit has 8 but truck has 12; the 4 rear (by spare tire and rear bumper) are still old the old mounts.

I didn’t have any issues with any kind of offset or something not going into place. The cups fit exactly into place where the previous stock mounts were located.

I do think the ride is better and feels smoother. (Maybe all in my head from thinking about it.) There has not been any pop/klunk.

There was only a slight change in ride height of less than a quarter inch. I measured different areas before and after with a measuring tape. Possibly because the silicone is soft like the original rubber and doesn’t stand hard like poly mounts would so not a drastic change.

I’ve contacted SB about getting 4 more for the rear and giving them info on the install. Hopefully they can come up with a kit that is for Tahoes.

Edit: I see they where you posted about getting two 6-packs of mounts to equal 12, pricey at over $1k but like many other things you get what you pay for

Thank you for all this very helpful detail, as I have been discouraged a few times by the different kits and parts.

Any success on getting the last 4 mounts in the rear? It's too bad they don't offer a kit of 12 for our trucks.
Do you notice and issues replacing the 8 and not the 4 in the rear after all this time?

I did end up getting the last 4 in a separate custom order. I had to go back and forth with customer service a couple times. They had to ask permission, and then had to put the set together. Took a couple of weeks and me chatting to follow up. I think if you chatted with customer service up front they might help you, but I don’t know. Maybe since I already dropped money for the first set and told them I installed, they were more willing to break apart another pack to send me the final 4.
I didn’t really notice a difference, with new in front and old in back, but that’s probably because I don’t ride in the rear. Also since there’s little weight in the back I don’t know if it changes much. Probably helps with some small level and pressure distribution, but you could probably get by with old in the rear if they are still usable and aren’t crumbled to pieces.
I’m happy with the purchase, a lot of peace of mind knowing I got a good set on the frame and everything is bolted in tight and right. The kit prevents any hunting down parts from kind-of an inconsistent area of information. Also there was a noticeable ride quality change. However, I plan on keeping my truck a long time, so that’s how I justify the cost.
If you’re going to replace the mounts, I hope you have an easier time than I did. That kit helped a lot with parts aspect, but still a lot of work dealing with broken bolts and getting the frame up. I don’t have a lot of tools or shop so it was a real pain. Also how I jacked the body up off the frame is a little suspicious; not sure what impact it has on connections like brake and fuel lines or bending frame or body, so don’t get too carried away with separating. I think my hood is a little more gapped because I didn’t lift it equally. No telling what else is misaligned. I used a floor jack, wood blocks, and some rv stands. Should’ve sprung for 4 jack stands and had a more equally distributed lift on the body.

Although very pricey at around $90 per mount it seems cheaper than OEM and tracking down all the hardware as well.
I tried getting them to sell me a 81-2000 and 81-2001 kit minus the two extra mounts, but they will not even consider it. I did recently get a response from them that I could order 2x 81-2000 kits, which totals 12, and then also order two more bolts (part number AI2365-00) I just have to phone it in. Hopefully this helps anyone else considering their kits.
I will probably be tackling this job in the next month or so, as I just checked on my mounts and one lower bushing crumbled in my hand.

I have been browsing around seeing different options to replace the body mounts and I always come back to the S&B kits because the material seems legit, and they have all the hardware. Although very pricey at around $90 per mount it seems cheaper than OEM and tracking down all the hardware as well.
I tried getting them to sell me a 81-2000 and 81-2001 kit minus the two extra mounts, but they will not even consider it. I did recently get a response from them that I could order 2x 81-2000 kits, which totals 12, and then also order two more bolts (part number AI2365-00) I just have to phone it in. Yeah they are kind of annoying with their qty and vehicle type. I literally made a slide show with photos and sent it to their sales guy showing it fits fine for a Tahoe and making bigger packs would sell. Probably has to do with liability as well as customer service costs.

I went kind of Karen with the communication and customer service people and got lucky with them finally agreeing to break a pack.

To do only the front 8 and not the rear, I don’t really have educated or professional advice. You could get away with it. Or try to put together the best parts from the old front 8 and put them in the 4 rear.

You could also try the cheaper polyurethane kits from autozone and use them in the rear?

I bought an OEM body mount to look at it and returned it. Found out the bolt wasn’t the same size. You could do that too since big box stores don’t charge restocking fees. Get the kit and look at it and decide if it’s good enough for you.

Body mounts are kinda frustrating because they aren’t exactly complicated. Just some bolts and bushing. Could probably stick anything in there and it would work. However the parts are pieced together and inconsistent matching due to model dates and changes. Also disconnecting the frame is a big job. Leaves you to decide how to approach it. Kinda comes down to what you want to spend like everything always does.

I can say I did notice a ride improvement and good to know I won’t have to worry about them again. The money hurt at the time, but that was a year ago and now I completely forgot about it. Also the stimulus check helped make the decision.

Before you start cracking bolts be prepared to make a purchase because those bolts can break and the old pieces will crumble and you’ll have to do something.

Wish I could give you a golden answer, but I don’t really know.
