I recently purchased a 6l80 out of a 07 Yukon Denali to swap it out with my transmission on my 08 Yukon Denali. I was wondering if transmission will be vin locked, if so what can I do to get my truck back up and running. I’m also swapping out the factory converter with a 2600 stall.
They're not VIN-locked but there are different variations of the operating system for transmission control loaded onto different models/sub-models. Pop the pans off of your existing trans and this new one and compared the TEHCM part numbers (they are visible on the face of the TEHCM as soon as you get the filter out of the way).
If they are different, you will need to swap your TEHCM to the 2008 (in fact, just swap the entire valve body-TEHCM-IMS-VSS/harness assembly over as it's just six 'starfish' bolts that require a Snap On 10EPL socket. Once done, perform a fast adapt relearn (NOT A 'Re-Tune') to reset the transmission adapts to zero/factory default prior to attempting to drive the vehicle. Otherwise, you will need to reprogram the TEHCM on the replacement transmission to correlate/play nice with your vehicle's PCM. If the TEHCM part numbers are the same, you can install it and do the fast adapt.
If you want, contact
@BlackBearPerf for a performance tune to go with your 2600 stall so you get the most out of the transmission..You may want to adjust TCC apply strategy or duty cycle parameters for better lock up characteristics.
