This was a common Chevy Cobalt problem. Plug in an OBD2 scanner and scan for codes. There are some that won't trigger the CEL to illuminate. Find out if there is one and fix accordingly, or just clear the code. I'm willing to bet you'll get your cruise control back.

did scanning with the OBD2 ever correct this?? I found out this problem tonight on a long drive to my wife's parents house...
