2007 yukon denali. 6.2 liter. Overheated once when hose broke. No I wasn't driving. Ever since, I have a ticket tik when it's cold. Seems to ge better when warmed up. But also seems to be getting a little worse in general. It sounds a lot like lifter. So here is my question. How hard is it and how long would it take to change the lifters? Is it worth it? Should I sell it and buy beer? Thanks for reading my novel. Cheers

Check to see if you're missing any exhaust manifold bolts first. Using a stethoscope or 24-in long piece of anything held to your ear, you can touch it on the manifold and listen. And then touch it on the valley cover and listen. The source of the tick will tell you what you need to know.

Changing the lifters is a full day job. This is your first time tearing into an LS, plan on two or three days. You'll be pulling both cylinder heads. Check them for flatness of course. Use genuine GM lifter trays and Delphi LS7 lifters with a gold retaining clip, and stick with OEM or felpro head gaskets.... Requires the use of new head bolts. Check your lifter preload on reassembly. Everything you need to know is here on the forum.... I would say more than any shop manual would answer.

If you're mechanically inclined and have a decent set of tools it's not hard at all...I did my afm delete in my driveway. If you're doing it just for the ticking though I would say you need to check a few other items first before condemning the lifters...

I'd have to agree completely.... With the added note that any AFM system that is 200,000 miles old is a high risk situation. I would not dive into the engine without removing those components.

Check for broken exhaust manifolds bolts first, a very common issue. There is a possibility that when you overheated the motor, an exhaust bolt or two may have snapped.
