Truck is '08 Tahoe 5.3 engine.
What is normal readout for the dash mounted volt meter?

Mine is steady at given readings but what is odd to me is that in any given drive it starts out at 14 volts and on second and third look going down the road it may be about 12.5 volts, 14 volts or about 15 volts. Is is not swinging but showing different readings at different times when driving down the road.
There doesn't seem to be a reason because if I crank up the hvac fans there is no immediate response on the gage so load doesn't seem to make a change.

A few tests on my SOLAR BA9 tester showed the key off battery test a 12.81volts, 1086 CCA (730 rating), both reported as ok by the meter on a fairly new battery.
Key on Cranking reports 11.71 volts, also as ok on the meter.
Running Alternator test reports 14.9 volts, and as ok on the meter.
Ripple test reports .18 volts.

Any ideas if the variant in the dash volt meter readings is normal?

normal, but if you see it happening a lot more often it could be a sign of the battery getting weaker from age, that's all
research gm RVC for more info
