I have a 2010 silverado 1500 5.3L with 180k. The engine was rebuilt(not to stock) before i bought it last October. Driving to work yesterday I went over a bump and rpms were still going up, but my speed was dropping and wouldn't go anywhere. I coasted into a parking lot and cane to a stop. When I went to pull straight in the spot truck wouldn't move. I put it in reverse and it moved about 2 feet and hard stop. I went to go forward again and nothing. Gave it a little more throttle and it moved 2 to 3 feet then almost sent me thru the windshield. Tried it in 4x4 didnt matter. About 2 or 3 weeks ago I noticed it would hard shift here and there. Not in all the gears and not all the time. Im not sure if its the tranny, which is the 6L80, the torque converter or the rear end. Can someone please point me in the right direction. Dont wanns pull the tranny if it's not the tranny.

Sounds like the transmission or torque converter to me. Might be the transfer case but I doubt it. Don’t believe it’s your rear diff as you would have been able to move when in 4WD with power going to your front differential.

If you can, put it up on 4 trusted jack stands and run it through the gears and see if the wheels turn and if your drive shafts turn.

Check the fluid level, color and smell of your transmission. Also pull the inspection cover off your bell housing and take a peek in there to see what you can see.

Because the rpm's were going up but you were slowing down acts like a bad manual trans clutch. In this case the trans and torque converter sound like the culprit. You never did say, what was the trans fluid level and condition of the fluid?

We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. While you may have posted pertinent info in your first post, you may forget to do it again and the info is needed by us anyway. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.

If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.

No smells or red rotors glowing? How does the transmission fluid look and how has it been serviced? Average life of a 6L80 is 165K. Then they need the TECHM solenoids rebuilt which some do but most shotgun it and rebuild the whole thing or get a new one. If you have access to a bi-directional scan tool, you'll find out in mere moments where the problem lies.
