The six speed "blows" but not because it is not stout enough but because of the shift parameters GM has programmed into the TCM.

I have the 5.3 and 6l60 but the shift parameters are probably close to the same. I hated the six speed at first. The problem was it shifted way to early under light acceleration and the RPM's would drop so low after the shift that it would hesitate and bog until it built a few more RPM's and then shift and bog again for each gear. It was especially noticeable in the lower gears. It also didn't want to downshift when needed unless I kept giving it more gas. Then it would downshift sometimes 2 gears and take off faster then I intended and with high RPM's.

I got the BB tune and now I love the way it drives and shifts. It builds more RPM's before shifting and the shifts are quicker and firmer and it downshifts when needed. Get a tune. You won't be sorry.

Well I can tell you on mine my lights do not dim at all. The transmission does suck. I am taking it in tomorrow because my power train warranty is almost up, hopefully they will fix something.

btw my alt has never been replaced it has 96k mi on it now

Mmm I see, thanks Felix.

Just so I don't get us confused as the term 'lag' could be interpreted in many ways. Basically the upshifts, instead of being smooth and seamless, create almost what one could call a slight hesitation. It's like it gets bogged down just when it needs not to for the upshift.

Is that what we're talking about?

Yes that is exactly what i'm talking about. I didn't notice it in the Avalanche or Tahoe but they are on the 5.3L/4 speed. It's only the 6.2L/6 speed that I noticed this lag... My future mod list has the BBP AutoCal so I can tune both vehicles accordingly but mainly to get the shifting of the transmission right on the Esky. First I gotta get a CAI for both vehicles :/

Out of curiosity ... can a dealership use their programmer to tweak the Transmission Control Module and/or the Throttle Management?

I'm going to guess that they can but I'm going to bet that they'll be reluctant to do so.

Went ahead and fixed that for you.

Apparently they can/will "flash" the module if there's an update to it, but you can bet they're never going to do any tuning tinkering with your truck.

Doesn't Serge have a 6L80? As opposed to your 6L60? I'm not well versed on those, but I was sure the 6L80 was pretty stout tranny?

Uh oh... How do I know which one I have?

Kirk.. Pretty sure all 6.2L trucks have the 6L80, the 5.3 has the 6L60.

So interesting development ...

I'm at the dealership getting the esky mirrors put in and I walked over and had a chat with the service manager about the lag issue.

He tells me that these vehicles go through a 4-6 week 'learn' mode when they detect a driving habit change. His suggestion is that I wait this duration and that the transmission will adapt to my driving requirements.

Is this true, and if so is there a chance this will remedy itself?
Or perhaps it will improve but the lag will still be there but to a lesser degree?

wow really??? So the Denali KNOWS you're driving habits and style and adapts to it? Will it massage your buttocks while you drive, too?

I've never heard of that but doesn't mean it's not true. I'm definitely very intrigued to find out if it is, though.

My Lexus does this...it will learn your driving style and adapt to it...the only way to reset it is a dealer flash or disconnect the battery for I think 15 minutes or something like that.
