New to this forum. The last two nights the temps were at 45 degrees. Went to start each morning and it would only crank and not start. Yesterday afternoon when the temps were warmer 60’s it started right up no problem. Same thing this morning no start but when the sun came up and warmed in the 60’s again started right up no problem. There is not a check engine light and no codes showing on scanner. Has anyone ran into something like this. Coolant temp sensor is new also. I’ve tried to look online but have come up with nothing. Are there any relays or other sensors that would cause this when cold out. Thanks in advance for any help.

Couple of background questions.

What kind of scanner? Can it see fuel pressure?

Is it flex fuel or straight gas?

No it can not read fuel. Just a basic code reader. It’s either on it fuel but I only use unleaded. No e85

Do you happen to have a fuel pressures gauge? If you can’t read what the fuel pressure sensor is saying, the next best thing is an analog gauge. A slowly fading fuel pump can induce starting problems.

On the flex fuel “virtual sensor”, it appears that this bit of software can be challenged to come up with an accurate Ethanol percentage calculation when fuel pressures are not consistent. Again a fuel pump, FPCM potential problem.

If you are using a cheap o ODB dongle scanner, it may tell you what the virtual ethanol sensor thinks you have in the tank. If you are burning E10, the ethanol percentage displayed on the scanner should be less than 10%. If it is a lot higher, like 20%+, again it might indicate a weak fuel pump.

I am going to get a fuel tester as my next step. I just don’t get why it will not start in cold but again this morning once it reached 60 it started right up again. I appreciate your advice. I’ve never put anything but 87 or higher in for gas.

Loose intake piping. Expands when it’s warmer causing whatever air flow leakage to close back up and read proper airflow for maf to register correct airflow? WAG? Start checking for things that expand when warmer? Could be your maf wires are marginal and create a good circuit when it warms up and expands? Maf harness open? Vacuum leak when the intake contracts in the colder temps? Once again expanding as the temp goes up and allowing the computer to register the correct airflow…
Go through and start checking everything. No matter how small…
Check the tech2 map and see if someone close to you can check things out when it’s cooler and can compare when it’s warmer to see what’s changed..

Probably time for a new battery unless you are running full strength ethanol.
