Recently purchased a 2011 Tahoe and my oil pressure reads around 20 at and idle and about 25 at 1700 RPM on the highway consistently once warmed up, this is extremely alarming and I’m not sure what to do, I already replaced replaced the oil sending unit and filter underneath. My OBD is not picking up any codes either. Any help at all would be really appreciated. I financed the vehicle and am really hoping I didn’t **** up

I am with @avalonandl on this one. Sounds like a classic example of the o-ring problem and yes, many threads here about all that. I am curious about one thing though. Before you bought the rig did you not see the low oil pressure? Did you ask about it? What were you told if you did?

Welcome to the forum from Oregon.

We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. While you may have posted pertinent info in your first post, you may forget to do it again and the info is needed by us anyway. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.

If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.

If you're going to do the overfill test, you also might want to try and have the front of your vehicle lower than the rear to help ensure that you have oil around the o-ring where the pick-up tube goes into your oil pump.

+1 for Roger and Wade's suggestions to overfill and, if possible, put the truck into a mild nosedive either by a steep driveway, pulling forward into a ditch or jacking up the rear by the diff and setting the axle tubes on jackstands. You might be able to back up onto some ramps if you have those.

Don't drive on the overfill just watch hot idle. Warm the vehicle first then add. Then wait and see.

I would not worry about 20 psi at hot idle. Lots of trucks idle there with no issue.

I have a 2010 Denali 6.2 has the same oil pressure. I've done the oil sender, oil pick up tube oring and tried a little heavier oil.

Other than the heavier weight oil my oil pressure always drops to around 22ish.

I've come to the conclusion that either my oil pump is going bad or the engine is going.

I would do as others have said and try the "easier" things. Definitely will be cheaper that way

22 at hot idle is fine.

That's why I'm not panicking and I continue to drive it. Though with the regular 5w-30 sitting in traffic I'll get the low oil pressure warning with 5w-40 it will have to be hot outside and sitting in traffic for awhile to get it.

No engine noise except on cold starts so I believe I'm fine
