2011 Tahoe oil pressure sensor replacement

My 2011 Tahoe check engine light came on yesterday (Merry x mas to me). Also noticed the oil pressure gauge as at 0. I almost passed out lol… but I didn’t hear any noise coming from the engine. Turned it off and checked under the truck for leaks/ oil level, everything seems fine and of course no engine noise. I’m pretty sure it’s the sending unit at this point. Been looking for any helpful vids to get an idea of how to replace it. All I’ve seen are half a$$ or chopped up vids. Anyone have a link to a good one out there. Thanks

only one I can think of that does it with the intake on.



being able to physically get to it by laying across the engine is the hardest part. I have a top side creeper but most don't. after that it's just the right combination of socket and extentions to get to it. it's a bit oddly placed back there.

It takes a few minutes longer but no contortionist games, I pull the intake and then have all the room in the world to replace the sensor. Don't need any special sockets that way either, just a wrench.

Rainman Ray had a video doing it this way on his youtube channel, probably 3-5 years ago.

When I did one for a neighbor I put a somewhat folded blanket across the top of the engine compartment, then a board on top of that, and a blanket on top of that to add to my own gut padding. Then it was all by feel. It's good to have a flex head ratchet and the correct sender socket, as well as a short extension or two.

It helped to have the nose of the truck facing up a bit so I wasn't inclined - pun intended - to slip off down the front of the grill.

It only takes 10 minutes to pull the intake, plus that way you can check your valley cover bolts.... Most of the time you'll have a couple of them loose. Pull them out one at a time, little bit of blue loctite and tighten to the torque spec. It will prevent a future oil leak. And don't forget the screen under the sending unit....

Pull the intake.. You can get everything nice and cleaned up.. And retorque the
valley cover bolts and get all that crap outta there too !!!
Make sure to get a "good" sensor like OE AND the little screen filter that
goes with it or you'll be doing it again soon

Hi, I had the same problem with my 06 Suburban, turned out it was the little "o" ring gasket in the oil pick up tube. Had a garage drop oil pan and install a new one, $350. If you can do it yourself, the gasket is only a few $. My sending unit was located on the Pasenger side of the oil pan. If that leaks you would have oil all over the bottom of the engine.

Passenger side of oil pan? That's not your oil pressure sending unit. That's your oil level sensor to warn you if your oil gets low. GM abandoned it on some of the later models. (2014 Escalade) Not even a spot for it.

$350 to replace the oil pick up tube o-ring? Man, I'm in the wrong business. Hopefully at that price he at least put one of the aftermarket girdles on where it bolts to the oil pump. OEM only uses one bolt. Several aftermarket manufacturers make a collar so that you can utilize the other threaded bolt hole in the oil pump for a more secure fit. Hopefully they removed the four screws in the bottom of the pan and the steel plate, so they could actually clean the bottom of the pan? And if you have the oil cooler, with the pan removed it's only an extra 10 minutes to change out the oil cooler lines. LOL, I'm a bit biased about shops these days. The quality and workmanship, attention to detail, etc very often is lacking. Hopefully you insisted on a felpro oil pan gasket, avoiding the OEM GM gasket that is prone to leaking? I'm sure there's some good shops out there.... Finding one can be difficult. (Mercedes dealer charged my aunt $82 to change a tail light bulb. I showed her how to change it herself in 30 seconds.... Oh boy, was she pissed )

350? on a awd? I'll pay you that just to do my oil pan gasket, don't even touch the O ring lol
