I have a 2011, which I took in for service (see my other thread). For a loaner, I got a 2012 Denali, which has the newer radio software. It looks pretty nice; I'm wondering if my 2011 can be upgraded via software to the 2012 version.

So far as I understand it the 2012 is a completely new internal hard drive system ... I don't think you can use the 2012 software on the 2011 as it's just past of the new system configuration. In fact, i have the 2012 Nav disc and it came with no software/firmware upgrade other than maps and POI.

Might have to consider aftermarket. Anyone have luck with aftermarket and keeping the dual rear-seat monitors? I'd want dual-zone so I can listen to XM up front and kids can watch DVD in back.

I know the flagship pioneer nav has dual zone. Als check out the kenwood flagship model.. I hear it's a lot faster than it's previous years model and has built in garmin nav. I have gone the factory and aftermarket route and my next vehicle will definitely be aftermarket again... these GM nav units are archaic!!

How do I get the 2012 Nav... pics I've seen make it look SO much better

Here ya go, a mere $2500 for you (when they get it back in stock): http://gm-navigation.com/latest-denso-hard-disk-drive-navigation-system.html

Hopefully for that price they include the updated harness and adaptor cause the backs of the two radios are completely different. http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=437076&postcount=6

If one is going to go through the trouble of swapping nav systems there are a lot of better ones out there for much much cheaper. :Handshake:

AmazinglySmooth,

"soulsea" is correct, unfortunately, the newer radio is not available via a software update.

Any aftermarket recommendations that will keep all the functionality?

So it can be added to 07+ yukons/tahoes but that's pricey. Might try to find one elsewhere

Kenwood DNX9980HD is last years flagship model and is $941 on amazon with free shipping/no tax. They came out with a newer one this year (DNX9990HD) but it's $1259 right now. It has built in garmin :)
