really hoping all of you can help us figure this out! The guys at firestone didn't believe me until I showed them the video! see the link . This car has been a mess since we bought it a year ago $$$, needed all new evap system, new alternator. (I see that is general upkeep on a car this age, but it all came at once)... now this. Would LOVE to add 200K more miles to it and have it run smoothly for our family! But depending on what the dealership says $$$$ we might have to cut our losses and move on!

This is often a loose or corroded battery cable. How old is the battery?

Do you have access to a bi-directional scan tool? How about an IPhone?

My guess is it's either corroded battery cables, or the fuse box under the hood has corrosion. Also need to check the grounding strap at rear driver's side firewall.

It’s due for battery cables if not done yet. They rot from the inside out. That plays havoc with random fault codes. If you don’t start with new cables you’ll chase ghosts for a while.

Hey Everyone! I am so sorry I hadn't circled back to firstly THANK you all sincerely. You saved us a ton of money and it was just the tightening of the battery cables that needed to happen and it has been good for a year. We do a lot of mountain driving and that seems to kick it off. It is doing the same thing again. Sadly our local car shop is closed for the holidays. Is this something my husband and I can tackle?! We have 4 small kids and this is the only car we fit in ha! hoping to solve it again asap! Happy holidays folks!

Yea! EZ fix. @jt8412 If the weird electrical problems come back be sure to start with new battery cables for both -/+ leads. For now, after a drive verify that they are not hot to the touch or melty looking from being loose in the past.

Yes! To tighten the cables, get a 10mm socket and 1/4 inch wrench. I like to use an extension to get around the bracket above the battery. Don't touch any part of the car except that little 10mm nut or you can short out things in your car. Make sure the key is out of the ignition while doing this. Don't over-tighten the nuts either. Just a good man-sized tug and let it be.

After the holidays, consider replacing the battery cables as mentioned by Michael.

I just read this, and would say you should NEVER go back to that Firestone. Loose or corroded cables are widely known for causing all sorts crazy electrical issues at once. When that happens, people all this site and others look to cables first. Firestone should have been all over it;
