2012 Yukon XL - misc fuse #43 blowing issue (rear view camera)

I purchased a 2012 Yukon XL earlier this year from the original owner, and need help solving an electrical issue. It had 65k miles and is in excellent condition. The only thing not working was the rear view camera (light on mirror would blink green but nothing would display in the mirror). After a few months, I decided to check it and found that 10 amp underhood "misc" fuse #43 was blown. I've since replaced it a couple times. The camera will work for at least several days and then the fuse will blow again.

Before I start testing the circuit, I wanted to get more info such as a diagram and input on common points for wiring problems on that circuit. I am comfortable with testing and fixing any wiring issues but would appreciate advice from those who know Yukon/Suburban wiring or who can point me to wiring diagrams. Best place to start looking is the rubber boot where the wiring passes from the liftgate into the main body.

Pull the rubber boot back from the main body and check the wiring for chaffing.

Seems to be a pretty common issue where the wires rub on the metal inside the roof.

If that is the problem... repair or wrap the wire with tape and install some split hose on the edge of the metal where it rubs to avoid future problems.

Howdy Daniel, Ken gave some great advice. You can get access to the wiring diagrams and everything else by having a subscription over at AllDataDIY which is basically the shop manual and bulletins and such.

I removed both sides of the rubber boot at the lift gate and body. After checking the wiring closely all around those areas, I see no signs of wear or broken insulation.

Any ideas on where to check next? Are there other items that are also connected to under-hood fuse circuit #43 (misc)? If the camera fuse is shared with other items then it might be that the issue is not on the camera wiring.

Fuse 43 is a 10A fuse that sends power through a pink wire to the stop lamp switch ( brake switch down by the brake pedal) out of the brake switch the power goes out on a LT Blu/Wht wire to the BCM (for turning off cruise control) and back to the under hood fuse panel and on to the trailer brakes ( blunt cut ) and the engine PCM via the left IP junction block...is what the manual says.

The blunt cut trailer brakes is going to be under the drivers side of the dash. There are 4 blunt cut wires for wiring up a trailer brake controller.

I would check there first since that seems like a likely spot for something to intermittently short out.

It actually doesn't show the rear view camera in my manual unless I missed it.

Do your brake lights work when the fuse is blown?

Does your cruise control work and turn off when you hit the brake pedal?

It could also be the brake switch... pretty common problem on these rigs.

Yes, the brake lights and cruise cancel on braking both work fine when fuse 43 is blown.

It definitely seems the camera is powered by fuse 43. I had also found that mentioned on several forums.

After the last fuse was installed, the camera worked for about 3 days of driving over 400 miles with no rain during that time.

It appears to go through the left IP junction block before going to the engines control module.

The IP junction block is located at the Left/drivers side end of the dash. Pull the cover for the fuse panel and behind the fuse panel you will see a junction block where different wiring harnesses plug in.

A subscription to All data would help you to track it down.

Perhaps James @swathdiver can shed some more light.

Well, that fuse is shared with the Climate Control Seat Module KB6, Stop Lamp Switch, Transfer Case Shift Control Switch NP8 and UVC if installed. The Rear View Camera Image Display Module is under the front passenger seat next to the Yaw Rate and Lateral Acceleration Sensor.

A Tech2 would make short work of this, there will be an internal body code that tells what and probably why something died or lost communication.

I chased down this same issue on my 09 Escalade and isolated it to the passenger seat module 100-1650 c. Mine started out as a randomly blown fuse, actually goin as long as 2 months before blowing and it slowly turned into a constant blowing situation. I fabbed up a mini LED test light with an old bulb and stuck one end wire into the cavity on #43 and other end directly into battery which illuminated the bulb since I was getting a constat dead short. After abt 1 hour of snooping around I found the issue... The module is located on the front edge of butt portion on passenger seat and can be reached with seat fully raised. I unplugged mine (3 connectors) since I dont used heated or cooled seats or whatever it controls and camera was more important. Hopefully this can be your issue and new module swap can get you right.
