2013 PPV questions

just purchased a 2013 ppv and starting to get some functions to work. Remote start and auto headlight for starters. Took to dealer and asked if they could turn them in through the computer. They tried and said I’m missing a module, but couldn’t replace it because it’s out of production and couldn’t give me the model number of the module either. It’s a good dealer, always Used them for service with no issues. Anyone have a solution?

I will ask a co-worker about this. I’ve heard, but haven’t seen it myself, that he added the factory remote start to his 2014 Tahoe PPV. I know it can be done on the 21+ Tahoe PPV/SSV. There’s a factory bulletin out about how to do that. I’m not sure about enabling the automatic headlamps for that production run of the Tahoe.

My apologies for taking a little bit to reply. My co-worker installed an aftermarket remote start. He said it was the easiest way to add that feature. I’m not sure what brand he used or how he made it all work. I just wasn’t able to see it myself.

Adding remote start, even with the AP8 - REMOTE VEHICLE STARTER PREP PKG option already in the vehicle, seems to take something akin to an act of God. All that’s needed is a software switch toggled.

I believe the aftermarket units aren’t too bad price wise. I have remote start on thethirdtwin and constantly forget about using it.

I find that hard to believe. I have a 2013 SSV Tahoe that I purchased straight from the Sheriff's dept. and I added the factory remote start by purchasing the factory kit which comes with 2 remotes and a code. The tech called GM and gave them the code and they sent him something to download and then upload to my vehicle. Cost me $50 to get GM to send the upload plus nearly $200 for the factory remote start kit. I also managed to get the automatic headlights turned on so they work now and we removed the DRL and covered the socket with plastic and taped it up to keep it dry. Changed the dash trim section and the radio surround with woodgrain pieces and then plugged in the DIC wire that was just laying behind the dash and now that works perfectly as well. I know those 3 things can be done on the 2007-2014 Tahoe's.
Tried to get the factory fog lights to work but failed so we wired them as an add-on. Also tried to get a factory backup camera to work and failed. Went with an aftermarket which ended up basically plug and play. Wanted to hook up the factory trailer brake switch but many people said they could not get it to work so I never even tried that one.

I trotted down this road myself with my SSV. My truck has the AP8 module pre-installed but finding the "add on kit" was impossible. My compromise was this unit. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0973MNLFN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 TBH, took longer to get the column apart to connect everything up than the actual programing....Works great with my existing remotes and super helpful in the winter to warm the truck and clear the windshield. IMO, this is the best option (some form of aftermarket unit) due to the age and availability of the factory setup by the stealerships!

From what I understand that is the only way to do it. But the kit hasn’t been available for a long time.
