There is absolutely no reason in this day & age an analog speedometer should not be 100% accurate.

Given how speed sensors work, and the other variables, like tire size, tire wear, etc. I would always expect at least a 3% margin of error. I wouldn't say that's a big deal. And basing it off your GPS - how can you absolutely confirm 100% that its completely accurate as well?

Because I move my GPS from car to car, and never seen such a difference before.
But anyway, considering tires wear 1/4" from new to old, how much of a difference is that ?

3%? Just wow! HOW do you know your GPS is the Golden Standard? The accuracy depends on how many satellites the unit 'sees'. Just wow.

I would have been furious if the speedo said 103 while GPS said 100. But speedo showing less than GPS is fine by me. Actually most cars I've owned have been off by 2-3%. My 03 Tahoe was off by 4% on stock tires.

My 2006 is slightly off I'd guess roughly the same 3%. And I have the stock tire size for my 17s. Although I don't have the factory recommended Bridgestone dueler alenza tire as I had those on it when I bought and absolutely hated them. Im running all terrain Michelin LTX tires. Not a problem in my opinion. Highway patrol here in California absolutely suck. They will ticket for anything. So if my speedometer says im going a little faster than I actually am that's fine by me. Saves me a speeding ticket lol.

I've used two different gps based speed measuring devices and both showed different speeds than my speedo

The Blur, dont get into motorcycles! You head would explode at the 10% most bikes are off from the factory.

Guys in the motorcycle world always discuss that they are off as much as they are for safety. If people dont know that they are actually going slower than what the speedo says then ultimately there will be less speed related accidents. Just a theory.

Ill throw in a boat speedo in this mix too. Probably at least 10% off.

I just drove 2000 miles all highway. The 3% error is definitely there. It's very noticeable from 90-100 MPH. Especially within the trucks analog and digital display. This has NOTHING to do with the GPS unit. Even my other GM car, the analog and digital speedo's are way off.

And this is not for my safety. I'm going faster than the analog speedo says.

If the digital display is correct and the analog is off, have the cluster recalibrated. Needle may not be correct then. I think you're making a bigger issue out of this than it needs to be at 3%.
