2015 Yukon "Service Automatic Collision Prep" on DIC

I have a 2015 Yukon XL Denali and for months now, I've gotten "Service Adaptive Cruise Control" and "Service Automatic Collision Prep" on the DIC at every start-up. This is not intermittent, it happens every time. The sensors are not blocked or dirty so I'm assuming the camera for the adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning has failed. I see this exact part number camera/sensor available on Ebay. Should I be able to buy a used one and swap it in or will it have to go to the dealer to be reprogrammed no matter what? I DIY everything so I'd really rather not have to set foot in a dealer! I'm kind of regretting buying a newer vehicle like this because it sounds like there's a lot that may need to be reprogrammed in the future that I can't just do myself. That said, is there a scanner or software I can buy to accomplish this kind of programming myself?

Just because the bumper sensors are clear and clean, does not mean that they are functioning correctly. My thought is that you may have a failed bumper sensor. I had a similar situation, and one of my bumper sensors had failed.

I recommend that you get yourself a quality bi-directional scanner to add to your tool box. Then, you will be able to read ALL trouble codes, along with a brief explanation/pointer to the source of your issue. You will also be able to reset/delete trouble codes, after taking corrective action. You will literally save thousands of dollars in diagnostic and repair costs over the life of your truck, and you will most likely recoup the cost of the scanner within 1 year.

In my case, my scanner actually pointed me to the exact bumper sensor that had failed.

it's going to take a very good scanner to pickup the error code, my best guess is if it has not flat out failed then it needs a calibration done, this type error occurs often if the front windshield is replaced and no calibration was done at the same time or afterwords. it could also be a failed front sensor or if there is a brush guard installed and no sensor relocation done

Thank you both, I attached a picture of the truck. I do have a scanner to read and clear codes but this isn't showing up on it. Do you guys have any recommendations on a better scanner that will allow me to do more with these trucks? This calibration is a good example. Is it something a dealer has to do or could I do it with the proper scanner? I've researched this error messages and they point to the front facing camera for lane departure/adaptive cruise failing, not the bumper sensors. I was more so wondering if it would have to be calibrated by the dealer if I bought a used one or if I could put it in myself and solve the problem.

I don't know what type of scanner you are using, but you need a quality bi-directional scanner to read the deep codes. Folks here like the Autel scanner, and someone will chime in with recommendations on specific model numbers.

My scanner will scan and show these codes. If you are a DIY guy like me on any new cars it’s a must. Something like this:


It’s a double edged sword really. The scanner costs a lot however the new cars have so many codes and test routines it does make diagnosing the issue much easier then playing a guessing game with parts.

Also I have the factory manual and all you do it look for the code in the troubleshooting section and it will give you step by step diagnostics including which pins to check for voltage, resistance checks, etc. it’s exactly what the dealer would do.

the autel he mentions above in the $500 range is probably the best bet (as far as diagnostics), anything else is going be more.
but it's probably not going to do the camera calibration I believe the calibration uses special equipment and a printed qr display placed on a sign in front of the vehicle and the calibration is done while the camera is active with some type of special procedure. A safelight dealer may be able to do it, I don't know what they would charge though versus dealer cost. there is a sensor in front that is different than any parking sensors and it goes inside the front left frame rail where a tow hook would normally be, that's why some of these do not have tow hooks from the factory.

Did it just start randomly showing these messages in the DIC or has it always done it since you’ve owned it? Not sure how long you’ve owned it?

I’m assuming due to these messages you currently cannot turn on or use your cruise control?

Have you had the windshield replaced?
Has there been any recent bodywork done involving the front bumper cover/bumper area? If not, and these messages have just sporadically started coming up and it’s every time you start the vehicle my guess would be some sensors have gone bad.

You can either pay a diagnostic fee somewhere or put that fee towards a better scanner and diagnose the code yourself. Either way from some of the posts above if it’s determined you have to replace sensors and a recalibration is necessary that calibration process might be limited to a dealership.
