2016 Tahoe 9C1 questions

Hi. First post. I drove a 1995 Caprice 9C1 for nine years and 100K miles and liked the performance and heavy duty construction.

Now I'm looking at a 2016 Tahoe 9C1 to tow a travel trailer. It has the 9C1 code on the glove box Service Parts Identification (SPID) listing.

The SPID has the following codes:

7X6 Spotlamp, left - but it has no spotlight

Z56 Police conversion chassis package.

Z82 Trailer Provisions, Special Equipment, HD. What would the tow capacity be? My primary reason for replacing my current SUV is to tow a travel trailer.

1LR Enhanced Performance Package

NZZ Skid plate package

KW7 170 Amp alternator

BG9 Rubber Floor Covering - but it has carpet

BVE Running Board Side Steps

AG1 and AG2 Power adjustable driver and passenger seats.

A31 SEO Color Code 1 Olive - but it is solid white. What's the Olive about?

GU4 3.08 rear axle ratio, G80 posi, same as my 1995 Caprice - Does this axle have a 8.5 inch ring gear like my 1995 9C1? I have a 3.42 ring and pinion I never put in my 9C1.

What were the 2016 9C1 17 inch steel wheel codes and tire codes? It has 20 inch alloy wheels and 33 inch tall P275/60R20 tires. I am wondering if the speedometer is way off. I can check it on a test drive with my GPS. The 3.42 ring and pinion would bring it back to specs if it is way off. I know I could get the PCM reprogrammed, but the larger tires also have a performance hit.

I used Tuner Cat to edit my 1995 9C1 PCM file to make it drive the way I wanted it to, radiator fan turn on temps, transmission/throttle shift points, torque converter lockup parameters, etc. Is there a programming capability I can buy so that I can do my own programming to make the Tahoe drive the way I want it to?

It has what looks like a usual Tahoe center console.
No sunroof
No rooftop cargo rack
Bench rear seat
No third seat
The usual SPID codes for engine oil cooling, heavy duty transmission fluid cooling, etc.

148,000 miles. Asking $19,000.

I've seen references to an "Admin" 9C1 in addition to the PPV and SSV versions. What were the usual equipment packages for an "Admin" 9C1? Is this maybe an "Admin"? I don't mind if it is. I took the spotlamp off my 1995 9C1 because traffic tended to come buzzing up on my left and then abruptly slow and hang off my left rear when they saw the spotlight. I laughed out loud the first time it happened. Then it became a bit of a pain. Traffic would bunch up behind me on the freeway. I put the stock non LEO alloy wheels on it to further conceal its identity. I like sleepers.

My current SUV is a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 liter six.

3.06 will give you about 6400 lbs towing capacity, if you want more you would need to change the ring & pinion gear set to 3.42 or higher

if you wanted to do your own custom tuning on this you would need hp tuner, the admin version may explain why it has carpet instead, the green paint code could mean it was intended for border patrol or ice, ice vehicles are generally all white.

What grade of fuel does Chevy specify for the 2015-2020 5.3L. I looked at a 2015 Yukon XL 6.2L and on the filler door and in the Owner's Manual both it said "Premium Recommended". In the manual it said that there might be knocking and engine damage with regular.

I get it that the higher compression ratio and premium gas provides more power and gas mileage, but for me it doesn't justify the additional cost of premium gas. My brother's 2007 Yukon XL 6.2L specifies 87 octane.

So, how about the 2015-2020 5.3L Tahoe's? What grade gasoline does Chevy recommend?

Didn't get back to look further at the 9C1 before it sold. Oh well. A Jet Black interior is my least favorite color and it did not have the Max Trailering Package.

So, I'm now looking at a white 2016 LT with the tan interior that does have the NHT Max Trailering Package with GU6 3.42 Rear Axle, Integrated Brake Controller, etc. and half the mileage. Of course, it is going to cost more.

Apparently, all recent Tahoes have the Heavy Duty Trailering package and about a 6500 tow rating. The Max Trailering package gives another ton of tow rating to about 8500 pounds. It varies a little with whether a vehicle is 2WD or 4WD. And, on paper, Tahoes have about 300 pounds more tow rating than a comparably equipped Suburban.

My second car was a 9c1 Caprice!! It had the L99 and I swapped a LT1 longblock in to have the LT1 and I loved that car. That was my first real "performance" vehicle. It would not stop eating Optisparks every 5-10k so I had to get rid of it. I own a '09 SSV 4WD, but I just got home from Chicago Motors with my new '18 PPV 4WD. Time to start the mods
