depending on how much you drive: I'd say save even more money and buy a used '16-18 with <50-60k miles on it and wait to see what this GMC Hummer suv is going to be

I see there being no rush to get the latest model - it looks awesome, but I barely drive and getting rid of a car payment is > paying 80k today/for the next n months;

Traded our 18 z71 in for a 21 z71 recently. Took about 500 miles of driving to start to really love it, as things like the seats and audio started breaking in. I def miss the seats in my 18, not gonna lie, 40k miles of road trips really had em molded nicely to my backside, haha. This whole first year thing to me is ridiculous. The 5.3 is the same ol motor they done for years, the interior tech is all generally the same tech from the current model high dollar trucks and cars. The trans is a 10 speed and same one that's been used in numerous other cars. Theres really nothing mechanically NEW. I do see some fitment issues with my interior A pillar plastics and theres a small rattle in my passenger door. Hardly anything to be upset about in my opinion, it will get fixed when I do my first oil change.

The 2021 has "Dynamic Fuel Management" while your 2018 would have had "Active Fuel Management". This means that your 2021 can shut down to just a couple of cylinders whereas your 2018 would only go down to 4.

Does the DFM operate more smoothly than the AFM? Do you notice any improved fuel economy when cruising on the freeway? (Of course, the 10 speed will have a big effect on fuel economy as well.)

I vote for a 2020. While the 2021 might be a nice redesign, I would be concerned with first model year issues - especially early in the model year.
Good luck which ever way you decide.

I agree.

That is a good recommendation. Also looking forward to see what the Hummer will look like. IMHO the GMC Hummer will be the most masculine looking electric vehicle on the market.

With that said I vote for the 2020 if you can get a really good discount on it.

I got my 2016 LT with the luxury package new in October 2016 as the 2017 were coming out and paid the same price a used rental Tahoe [with a lot of dings] with over 40K miles on it. So far just plain old regular maintenance [except for a A/C condenser which was fixed in less the 24 hours and it cost me nothing] with almost 90K miles on it. Knock on wood.
