i'm almost ready to test my dod delete work, and i need to refill my transmission fluid. i have 12 qts of dexron ulv on hand and another 5 qts ordered.

i had the radiator/cooler disconnected and drained the transmission fluid from the pan and replaced the filter. i had to undo the 8 mm hex fitting on the left side of the transmission pan to drain it.

i see comments that suggest there should be a fill/vent plug on the right side of the transmission pan, but i couldn't find it on the 10 speed transmission. additionally, i don't see a transmission dip stick in the engine compartment. i only have the service manual for the 6 speed transmission, so i can't find good manual info for the 10 speed.

can someone give me input on the fill process for this transmission? i would like to do a flush while i'm at it, but that seems pretty challenging to do without a dipstick tube for the filling.

looks like the game is to do an initial fill to the bottom of the fill plug, close plug, start engine, and continue filling until you get to the bottom of the fill plug again. flushing requires going back and forth with adding fluid via the fill plug on the bottom and removing fluid via right/output transmission cooler line in the radiator.

what a pain.

I saw this somewhere before but couldn't find it again. Isn't there a place that sells a retrofit dipstick, and would it work for our transmissions?

Also, I've done 4 transmission services for my 10L80, and the way it was described in this thread, is exactly how to do it. It's an ultra pain in the rear.

Edit: this is the one I had found before, but it's for a 6L80/90.

I guess I was off a bit b&m makes one for the 8l80e, does not specify any for the gm 10 spd, but the one for ford one says 10r80, maybe it can be made to work?
