2021 Z71 Air Suspension Help Please

Hi All,
We have a 2021 Tahoe Z71 with the air suspension. Love the truck, but the system's compressor seems to freeze up when it's cold. When this happens, I receive the "maintenance leveling system" error. By cold I mean under 10 degrees Fahrenheit. By the time we bring it to the dealer, it has warmed up and been working properly, so they're of no help. My family is stuck up in VT with a 4+ hr drive home this time with the front suspension at full drop. The closest dealer cannot get us in for weeks.

I have pulled fuses 61, 68 as well as left the negative cable off for an hour with no fix. I'm actively trying to find a garage I can toss it in for an hour to see if that will resolve the issue. In the meantime, do these systems have manual fills like the retro-fit systems available for classic cars? If anyone has any ideas on how to force air into the springs I'm all ears. Thank you!

Our 23 high country Tahoe (with air ride) has a capped port on the air tank under truck that could potentially be used to add air to the tank. Unfortunately its a weird connection (kinda looks like an AC line connection but different size), its not just a normal Schrader valve style connection.

If you could source the correct fitting to connect to that capped port you could add air to the tank from a small external compressor (like one of these little cigarette lighter plug in tire inflator compressors).

POST EDIT:
Little googling around didn't find me the name or style of that connection, but below is a picture from an eBay listing for a factory air ride tank. The black capped connection I'm talking about is visible on the left side of the tank

This is the first post that I've seen about outside temperatures and the truck's air compressor. I know that your need for a solution is rather immediate, and the above post from @Antonm may be your best bet, assuming that a local shop can figure out what that connector is. I assume that your truck is still under warranty, so your longer term solution should be achieved without additional cost to you, and I'm guessing that a compressor replacement will be the first attempted fix.

Thank you both so very much! The local shop is too afraid to add air to the system . I’ve worked on cars my whole life and it’s so frustrating being on the other side of this haha.

We’re in for a bumpy ride I guess! I will report back once it’s fixed. May even have to make my own water separator for the system so this doesn’t happen again.

Alldata states to fill that tank (shown above) with 210 psi of nitrogen using a special fitting.

Did Alldata give the name of, or perhaps a part number for, this special fitting?

I'd be interesting in getting one of these fittings too, that way I could use the Tahoe's onboard air system to fill up river floats or a camping air mattress.

I wonder if something like this off Amazon would allow us to tap into, and use the air from, that port on the factory air ride tank?

Anyone out there wanna be the guinee pig?

See attached. They called the tool a CH-52667? Also attached a tsb. May be op’s original problem?

I'll be damn ,,, it is a r134a refrigerant fitting on the tank.

I googled that part number and found one of those tools available for sale (costs $1600, um no thanks) , but reading the description sure was interesting, below is copy/paste for the description of that tool (see bolded and underlined section for the interesting part)



CH-52667 Nitrogen Injector Kit GM-52667

This tool is designed to inject nitrogen into the air suspension air springs and air tank. When servicing a component, the system loses air, and the onboard compressor cannot fill the entire system.

An adapter will be used on the “Wonder Valve” fitting of the air spring and an R134a fitting on the air tank. Nitrogen will be used to achieve the air dryness specification and to inject specified pressure into the air springs and the air tank. This will also prevent any oil or debris from entering the system.

The kit contains:


  • CH-52667-1 Regulator Assembly
  • CH-52667-2 Port Assembly
  • CH-52667-3 Fitting Assembly. Adapter for the “Wonder Valve” to be used with the air strut.
