So I have a 2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 with rust in the frame. Looks horrible truck only has 4,000 miles on it. I live in Texas this truck has not seen snow or ice. Taking it in to the dealer next week to see what they say about this. My 1979 Chevy pick up has no rust you pay more for this cars and they go cheaper on things.

It looks like some of our good old Texas/Oklahoma red dirt to me that just didn't get washed off later when driving in the rain. Personally, I would go to a do-it-yourself car wash place and try cleaning those areas real good with their high pressure system and see what it looks like then before taking it to a dealer. Might save you some embarrassment if that's all it really is.

Yep - that's not rust. GM coats the frames of their trucks with an anti-corrosion "wax" that's black. It's a bit sticky and looks it's just holding onto the dirt you have in your region.

You TX folk would not enjoy living up here in the snow (salt) belt. Any untreated metal under the vehicle gets patina on it after one winter...floor of my garage has lots of "rust spots" on it from things dripping off the vehicles. Its normal. So much so that GM even issued a communication about it...

Tend to agree w/ this...

Ain't that avatar of the truck sitting in mud/water?

We call that patina, surface rust actually protects the metal.
