Hi All, I am noticing an intermittent vibration at idle, mostly when stopped at stoplight - felt in seat, floorboard and steering wheel. It almost looks like a miss fire type of shake. Like a slight kick And then goes away. Otherwise, car drives perfectly fine. It only has 25K miles. I only put shell premium gas in it. I took it to the deal a couple of times, they said it was fine. No codes or anything. Does anyone else notice this in their Yukons ?

I would not say it is a "totally normal" thing. Without experiencing it nobody and really tell if the situation is "normall"

At 25k miles if the person has had the vehicle since new, they probably have a good feel for the vehicle and engine.

As these engines age, without a catch can, the intake path and intake valves can carbon up, the injectors can start to get restricted and even the lifters/camshaft can start to wear.

The best advise I could give at this point is to get something like Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner and run 2-4 fuel tanks of this in the proper concentration, I think it takes about 1 bottle per 12 gallons, so you would probably need 2 bottles per tank. This will only help with the fuel injectors and some piston deposits, it will do nothing for the intake path or build up on the intake valves.

See what happens, if this does not help, you may have an underlying problem that may start to get worse.

I have the same issue with my 2024 Tahoe Premier 4WD 5.3L, purchased new, and now with 2,000 miles on it. I only use top tier fuel - 87 octane.

I am not sure I would run Regular fuel in the L84 5.3l as it has 11.0:1 compression vs the 6.2l with 11.5:1 compression. I know people may not want to hear this, but it is reality and I have no idea how GM can bold face say the vehicle is designed for Regular fuel.

While Premium fuel would not likely change the way the vehicle runs, I would run Premium fuel all the time. I would also consider using Techron in the fuel tank. I plan on running a low dose of Techron in my vehicle, 1 can per tank just for the mainteance aspect. The problem with the direct injected engines, the injectors are in the combustion chamber and operate in a rather harsh environment.

I assume you may have the Auto Stop/Start turned off as well? If not, I would turn this off as well, just more wear and tear on the engine. Possibly the Auto Stop/Start is what may be causing the intermitten vibration as well??

Just some thoughts.

I use top tier 87 octane, as that is what GM recommends. I do not tow, strictly passenger use.

I have used Techron fuel system cleaner for many years in all of my vehicles. Usually about every 5,000 - 8,000 miles. I have not used it in the Tahoe yet.

I turn off the stop-start system every time I start the engine.

The best way to describe the vibration is it is a brief “shudder” while stopped, in gear. The engine can be cold or fully warmed up via long drive.

I know GM recommends 87 Octane but with the compression ratio and DI, I would not run 87.

I wonder if this is the beginning of a valve body problem?? Don't know, just thinking out loud here.

It’s just trying to idle as low as possible. What specific problem are you trying to solve of it drives fine?

All the threads I’ve seen here and on other Chevy/GMC forums have said that the shudder/lope at idle is a normal GM thing.

“The idle on these DI motors are tuned from the factory to have a low RPM idle and the timing/fueling is cut back to produce a lean condition...to help with emissions. Because of this, the idle will slightly stumble a little bit here and there.”
