For the people that like to change their own oil and filter on a 2023 yukon 5.3L, what oil and filter do you use? ... the truck is new and I plan to keep it for a long time.
Also how often do you change your oil? I did mine every 5000.
I'll use most but not all Quaker State Pennzoil Valvoline or Mobil1 full synthetics in 0W20 0W30 5W20 or 5W30.
I've only ever dared use non-synthetic motor oil (5W20 only) to top off due to oil consumption between oil changes.
The cheapest Fram oil filter ... schidt, even the cheapest Wix oil filter, has recently become a piece of crap.
Take one step above the 'base' oil filter, they make them a bit better - finer filtration media, tougher construction.
I'd use a top of the line Fram 'cause I don't trust Fram. One step above Wix's base oil filter is good enough for me.
All that said, you can likely get away with any ol' 0W20 0W30 5W20 or 5W30, and the flimsiest barebones oil filter ...
provided you change them both every 3000 miles.
Even with the best oils and filters (don't forget air filters!), still get dirtier after more miles, than less miles.
Think how much dirt motor oil accumulates after 6000 miles of pure highway driving (best for the motor oil by the way).
That engine would still last longer if the oil and filter were changed more often, keeping the engine cleaner.
I know NYC cabbies driving around with vehicles with over 300,000 CITY miles, using the cheapest motor oils and filters possible - cooking oils for motor oil, maybe oil filters made of compressed panythose?
They change their motor oil and filter about every two months / 2500 - 3000 miles per oil change.
And even if I did not change my oil and filter myself, I'd not tolerate a mechanic's shop that did not use the oil and filter that I provided.
