I got my 97 Yukon with 2" body lift and 33x11.5x16 tires. Pretty much the same as a 285 tire. I have the crap 3.42 gears and ya it turns lower RPM's on the freeway but it accelerates good off the line and when I gun it while cruising. It downshifts on hills and when I wanna pass but no problems with my everyday driving. I would have preferred the 3.73's for better towing but I dont see bigger tires or 4.10's in my future. I had a Ford Ranger with 3 litre auto 4.10s and 31" tires and the Yukon could smoke it.

So the 3.73's can clearly handle 285's. But will I lose anything on the highway? Bc sunlit has talked me into his tire choice and I'm excited. But that 285 just looks stout. Surely it slows u down?

It feels sluggish now bc of these $hitty mastercraft 265's right now. But they are crap. My old 17's rolled really well at 265/70/17. But I wanted to return to factory 16's. Which I did as u can see.

unknown at this time.
you would notice a speedo change more then outright sluggishness unless you WOT all the time. You will gain about 40 pounds of tire weight with the 285's. If you want get the dueler 285's and if not happy you can justify a gear change to your self later:D

WOT = Wide Open Throttle
Mine doesnt feel sluggish at all. No its not as fast as the Grand Cherokee I had with 318 V8, 3.73's and 32's but this is a big heavy truck and has enough power for what I need it to do. And its quicker than the 85 Blazer I had for a wheeling only rig. It had a 160 horse V8 4.56's and 35's. Look at a new Tahoe... ya it has almost 70 more horsepower but only 5 more pounds of torque. And that torque is at a higher RPM.

you'll be fine with performance...if you're worried about it, get a blackbeartune for that extra bump in power, change in torque mgmt, and altered shift pts/firmness.

just so know, your gas mileage is going to decrease. As sunlit mentioned, you have a lot more rolling mass with the heavier setup and those tires are going to stick out creating more wind resistance. Even though it's not going to be a huge degredation, handling (acceleration, cornering, braking) will be affected. But, these trucks weigh a lot, so performance is relative.

Unless you are 4wheeling, bigger tires are only for looking good :) And 285's look a LOT better then 265's IMO.

The last two responses really make me lean toward 285's. This is meant to be for an around town but yet 4x4 capable truck. And I want the look. I have cranked already and want to do blocks in the back. I personally don't see where gas Mileage is relevant when you are getting 10/13 what's the difference? And I think 265's look small for some reason? Or at least squatty? I'd rather have taller. Just my opinion
