I've had my '96 2 dr about a year now and have never been able to fold down the rear seat.
I pull ******* the "Pull Release" handle with no results. So yesterday I slithered into rear seat
floorboard and took a looky. Good news was the steel cables were not broken.
What had happened was the short cable (pass side) collar which is cinched up in
a deep slot in the stamped steel release housing would not stay in slot.
It would pop out pulling the handle.
So, took a very small worm clamp and screwed it down tight on the collar while
it was secured in the slot. Worm clamp screw side should be on top of collar as much
as possible.
It's still a little "sloppy" feeling...But, viola! it worked.
