Not sure if this is the right section to post this... I figured since a drop was involved, more folks would see it here and have some insight/suggestions...

Currently I have a 2" spindle drop, but already have the springs and hangers to make the 3/2 complete. I've been trying to figure out what size wheel/tire combo to run without rubbing. I want the widest possible footprint (thinking 275-295), but am not sure of what size wheel I should run. I was thinking 17" or 18" (9" wide) as I need to maintain a decent sidewall for towing purposes. Attached is a pre-spindle drop pic of my truck (275/60/16 Toyo Proxies on 16x8 wheels; currently running 275/60/15 tires on TT2s).

Any suggestions?

I have been looking into the same type of situation. Tire wise I am stuck at 17 or 18 but the width is gona be 9 to 9.5. That will handle the 275's or the 295's but I am thinking due to mine being 2 wd and not 4x4 and the lack of great options in the wheel department I will be going with 275's. More common tire available for 17 or 18's by 275 with 50, 55, 60, side walls. and on 17's it is the same diameter as a stock 235/75/15. The back spacing and offset are what makes or breaks you in the rub department it seems.

Checked out some local wheel/tire shops today... looks like I'll be going with 20s instead of 17 or 18. Believe it not, prices on the 20s are lower than the 17s or 18s (gotta love availability effects).

Just in case anyone's interested, I'm looking at the 20x9 chrome XD Series "Crank" wheel and 275/45/20 tires. Tires have a higher load and speed rating than the 17s/18s I was previously considering, hence my decision to change to 20s.

If I went with a 295/45/20 tire, I'd be about an inch taller and wider, but they aren't recommended for a 9" wheel... c'est la vie.

So If you wouldn't mind, how much are you spending on the 20's. I have been hesitant go that large. What is the cost with tires?

Price range depends largely on the wheel... For the Crank, I was given package deal prices that ranged from ~$1600-1900. Includes mount/balance and lugs/locks, but not tax or shipping.

Believe it or not, I found the 20s to be more cost effective than the 17s due to availability (I looked into 17s, 18s, and 20s). Like yourself, I wasn't looking to go that large...factoring in tire replacement costs and the fact that I tow regularly. However, I learned yesterday that all concerns and tasks can be handled most economically in the 20" package (go figure).

Yep... 2wd = 5x5 on the OBS. Thanks for the compliment on my wheel choice.

I need to update my sig info since my rear-end has been rebuilt (new Yukon axles and Detroit Truetrac - new bearings and seals too). Guess I'll wait until my wheels arrive so I can do it once and be done.
