I had the 3.08 in mine as well, and when I lifted it, it was slow off the line, and never really used 6th gear unless I was about 80mph.

When I put 4.56 gears in it, that made all the difference. Now I can easily turn the tires over, and towing is a breeze. And I still get 20mpg on the highway, and 16-17 around town.

Yes, most aftermarket gears will make some noise. Mine do, but it is so slight, I would need to have the radio off, and be on a completely smooth surface to hear it. It really isnt bad, and would not discourage me from recommending a gear swap. I went with the Yukon gears, as they have a great reputation, and I have found the quietest of the aftermarket gears. I had a set of Superior Gears in my 05 Super Duty, and they were much louder, even over a set of 38" Wrangler MT/R's.

The front "carrier" is actually the part that the ring gear bolts to, not the actual "case" that the front differential sits in. Confusing terms, I know. And anything from 3.42 and higher (numatically lower) uses one size carrier, and below 3.42 (numerically higher) uses a different size carrier.

I had my front and rear swaped over at a local Chevrolet dealer for $1200, gears included.

Hey Blazed,

Looking at your sig pic, I see you have some pretty decent sized wheels on there. If it were me, and i was looking to regear, I might have to consider a 4.10 gear set. It would help with the heavier weight of those big rims on your truck. Also, do you live where there are hills/mountains? If so, then definitely think about 4.10's then. It will keep you from downshifting so much at inclines. If it is completely flat where you are, then the 3.73 should be fine.

Now, be aware that once you do the gear swap, you will need ot program the computer BEFORE you drive anywhere, otherwise you will end up with an ABS light and Traction Control message due to improper speed correlation. And most likely a Reduced Power mode as well. So be sure to bring your programmer with you to wherever you have the gears done at, and do it before you leave the parking lot, if the shop doesnt do it for you.

Also, my truck will be at about 2300RPMs at 75 mph. Seems a little high I know, but it works so well. And the reasons are, one the GM 5.3 engines in the trucks and suvs are actually more efficient at 2000-2400 rpm, and at that range, the Displacement on Demand (4cyl mode) can actually produce enough power to keep the truck moving, while using half the engine. This is why the fuel mieage is so good on my truck. If you have removed this feature through a programmer, then a higher gear set would be fine (ie 3.73)

And for reference, I have a 2011 Tahoe, 6" lift, 35" BFG A/T tires, aluminum 18" wheels, and 4.56 gears. I also live in Western North Carolina, so mountain grades are a daily occurance for me. Plus mountainous, unpaved job sites, but thats another story. LOL

Hopefully this all helps.

You have been extremely helpful thank you.
I'm gonna stick with 3.73 tho because I think 4.10s might affect the gas mileage too much and while having it floored I think I'd go thru the gears too quickly.

Good info here. I have 3.42's in my 2011 Tahoe LT and had not even thought about this factor.

I'm probably gonna get 3.73s swapped in by summer at the dealer.

I have an 09 yukon and i just put 3.73's in it. They still suck!! I had 3.42's before. The only difference i noticed is that it no longer switches between 5th and 6th. I would like to know what 4.10's feel like!!
