35w is more than adequate.

I also wouldn't do HIDs for your Hi beams if you only use them for flashing or short periods of time. HIDs don't reach there full intensity until 30-60 seconds after turning them on, and the repeated on/off will hurt the ballast.

This is not true for my 55 watt bulbs. Its 20 degrees outside and it will take all of about 3 seconds for mine to turn all the way on. It is true that they wash out the color. Your gonna want to order a whole color class above what color you want. I wanted 10k's so i ordered 55 watt 12k's and couldn't be happier with my choice. Like you said just re adjust your headlights and nobody will bother you. Even if your trying to "look cool like some high school kid"
