Finally got my '99 back today. I had a 383 GM performance engine installed. I picked it up and I can definitely tell it has more power, but I know there are more ponies there that I am not able to spur. I am currently in "break-in" mode as well.

Couple questions:

Anyone else on here do this swap? If so, are there any quick fixes to increase the horsepower. I didn't know if a programer would help. I am running stock gears, stock intake, and stock exhaust.

Should I have it Dyno Tuned?

ofcourse theres power to be made.

Full exhaust, LT to tips.
CAI.
Full roller rockers.
Higher stall converter.
Under drive pulleys.
Obviously a full tune.
Etc...

Just decide what your budget is and go from there.

Would you consider the Black Bear tune a custom tune?

I don't know of anyone around that has a dyno... I'm sure there are some close... I live pretty close to Joplin, Mo....and then finding someone who knows what they are doing is another thing.

Black bear is but a mail order isn't going to cut it. if he did it in person that is a better option. A dyno being the best option

Make sure to get all the bolt ons you want installed before you take it to get a tune, saves money from having to be retuned again :p

That was my next question... thanks.

I was thinking of changing my exhaust next year... probably should wait on the tune until I do that?

I was also thinking of changing my gear ratio and I'd like to wait on that due to $$$... that should not affect the tune, should it?

unknown at this time.
the pcm needs to be programmed to know it has a 383 so as to get more from it. blackbear should be able to take care of that easily.
