we can change and update equipment by newer year while retains new emissions. It might becuase that 383, stroker, was not technically a factory installed option on the same model even in later years. That is our engine upgrade restriction issue here I believe. So if the Tahoe had a factory 6.0 option it can be used if it was not it can't. A factory tbi 350 could not if in 1996 or newer. Gasoline powered 1975 year model or older is free game for what ever you want.

That is why with some tweaking of pcm data I would be willing to take a chance on it here if I had money to do it now.

Probly a stupid question but,When I worked at a smog check station in San Bernardino (late 80's) .
We did a visual check of devices(hot air tubes, egr, vac lines, charcoal canister, etc)If the vehicle passed the eye test,Then we sniffed the tailpipe.
My point is If the 383 uses all the stock bolt on stuff.(It would pass the eye test)And assume it would pass the sniffer test.....How in the world would the tester ever know it was not the stock 5.7l engine.

Sniffer test last year. They actually plugged in to verify no codes and that the emission readiness monitors were all green. So technically it could pop up displacement or show a mismatch if they looked hard enough.

If I ever put the engine back together I will probably do some sniff but not certify tests just to see how the rocker arms and MSD ignition and 0411 swap change things. I am pretty sure 0411 would have cleaner emissions and any extra fuel mixture from rockers would definitely be completely burned by the MSD but I still want to see numbers for compiling my own data and future changes.

You wont have to worry about the bolt ons messing up your tailpipe sniff, as long as the PCM can add or subtract enough injector pulse width and is in closed loop it will always be at around 14.7 to 1. Its your WOT that may fail, but they dont check that :)

The reasons things are not 50 state is due to a part, or parts not being C.A.R.B certified, which just means that the California Air Resources Board didnt document, test and slap a stupid sticker on the part or it doesnt meet the emissions requirements. :supergay:

Yeah they only do a 15 and 25mph chassis dyno sniff over here. Maybe idle to.

I agree with the CARB exempt issue I am sure it would work cleanly but at the same time I don't know why the catalog mentioned illegality in 5 others states too. I just don't have the details yet. Hopefully this week.

Ill bet the cam specs are slightly different and that is why its not 50 states legal.......the rest of the engine should be almost identical.
