This is my truck. I’ve been mostly lurking on this site for the past 6 months or so and decided it’s probably time for an introduction.

At the time I originally lowered my 2007 Tahoe in the autumn of 2006, there was only one set of parts available, so that’s what I used. The truck only had 200 miles on it, and I couldn’t wait to smack it. Turns out I should have.

The ride was okay at first, when I lived in the desert where the roads were relatively smooth. But now that I’m back on the tundra with its frost-heaved cow tracks, it had become unbearable. It always had too much rake, but I just got used to that and the sub-par ride and didn’t give it much thought until this spring.

In my opinion, Tony Lukezic (a.k.a. NORCAL SS) is a HUGE benefit to this site. His prices are obviously excellent and delivery time is great. He’s got the experience with these trucks that will keep you from making a potentially expensive mistake.

Tony was happy to suggest a couple of options that would get me where I wanted to be. Specifically, less rake with a significant ride quality improvement. Together, we were able to handpick the components that would work best for my desired ride height while allowing me to retain some of the existing lowering components.

My new combination is a 4/5.5 drop; components are as follows:
Front:
Belltech adjustable struts, zero spacers
Stock springs
McGaughy’s spindles

Rear:
Belltech Trailblazer SS springs PN4230, no isolators
McGaughy’s LCA brackets and sway bar links
McGaughy’s shocks (to be changed shortly)
Bump stop brackets removed

The truck’s ride height as shown is 32" front, 33.5" rear on 285/45/22s. I recently carried about 600 pounds of cargo with no bottoming at all. I’ve lowered a lot of vehicles in the past 20 years (every one that I’ve owned, actually), but few very few rode this comfortably. One other thing is that the truck aligned to within .1° of camber spec on both sides without the need for an additional kit. Very nice.

I’m toying with trimming the rear coils to lessen the rake slightly, but haven’t decided on this yet. Rear ride height closer to 32.5” or so would be ideal, but… We’ll see.

So, I really didn’t set out to write an infomercial for Tony, even though I’m sure that’s exactly how this reads. The truth is that I couldn’t be (much) happier with my new setup.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, even if it's wrong. :)
