Steve,

I have been using the TCI Transmission Control Unit, for quite a few years now, on both the Tahoe and Camaro.

It makes controlling the trans a dream. You can set up shift points with the click of a mouse and also setup WOT shift points separate from normal driving.

The Force motor tables allow setting shift firmness at all settings. Light throttle setting can be smooth as glass and heavy throttle setting can jerk your neck as hard as you want.

I also setup the “paddle shifters” in both since it is available. You can shift in and out of the paddle shifters at any time.
I also set up a different circuit that I switch the TPS setting from the TPS sensor to a WOT voltage, setting without being hooked to the throttle.

What happens is if the guy in the next lane seems to be getting frisky at the light, I hit the switch, which just holds each gear to the WOT settings. In other words even under a light throttle setting first gear won’t shift until 6,000 rpms. So if the other guys toys with you and then hits it after your rolling, say 10 mph, your still in first and there is no waiting for down shift, since your vehicle still thinks it at WOT. It’s a cool modification that is easy to do.

If it’s a false alarm, I just throw the switch and it’s back to normal instantly. Kind of handy for the jerk that is waiting for you to shift into second before he hit’s it.

The TCI/TCU windows 98 version of software is easier to use than the newer windows version..

I actually have a transmission pressure gauge on the windshield pod. Makes it easy to keep up on changes.

By the way, the TCI, TCU is designed to operate several transmissions. It’s just a selection in the software to select the transmission of your choice. There is also a jumper in the wiring harness when changing from 4L60 to 4L80.

Now that I have some time driving a new six speed in my new car, I’m curious about changing the 95 Tahoe to a six speed. That could be fun………
