Hey guys,

seems this old transmission wants to fight me from trying to save it at every turn, lol. Finally getting around to installing my shift kit. Relatively straight forward process and everything has gone smoothly. One weird issue is that boost valve. I have gotten the spring clip off and the valve drops out about 3/4 of an inch or so and then stops. When I push and pull on it it makes a clanging sound like it's hitting something metal that is preventing it from coming out. Has a hard stop when I pull on it, and I would like to avoid damaging anything by yanking on it, or getting it galled into the bore.

I read on another forum somebody suggesting to put the pan back on with a couple of bolts and run it so the pump will blow the valve out. Seems like a poor idea but I'm not above redneckery.

Hey guys I got it out. Get ready for a WEIRD ONE. As I was pulling I noticed that below the location where the valve clips into the transmission, the bore continues down toward the pan. The circular bore itself is machined and continues past the clip location until it reaches a squared off portion of the case. Upon really close inspection, I noted that just where the boost valve traveled down the bore extension it hung up right where the case was squared off and the machined portion of the bore ended. There was a TINY overhang of the squared portion of the case into the bore that just barely prevented the valve from coming down. I got on it with a small, round rasp and removed probably a few thousandths of material and magic. The thing popped out. Super weird, never heard of this before. I'll try to add a pic of the location I'm talking about.
